Artist, Photographer & Aspiring Historian
On a warm evening in April 1977, Led Zeppelin were about to step on stage in Bloomington, Minnesota. Approximately 2000 miles West South West of there, George Lucas was putting the finishing touches on his latest film Star Wars. At that precise moment 5000 miles to the East, sat in a small chateau in Normandy. Jacques Milet was, wondering about his daughter Catherine who was in labour, about to give birth to a baby boy who would be named Jonathan Milet Baker.
This world is full of the little details that go unnoticed every day. Growing up we all have a rich and extensive imagination that many of us bury as we become adults. I believe that if we open our eyes to the world around us, with a healthy dusting of our long lost imagination, a very surreal world is revealed.
I believe in challenging established and sentimental views that digital photography and the use of digital processing are inferior to traditional techniques.
I draw my inspiration from the work of painters such as Rene Magritte and Dorethea Tanning, and photographers such as Guy Bourdin, Kourtney Roy and Storm Thorgerson. Mixed together with my passion for history, philosophy and technology, I make subtle use of digital manipulation. Creating surreal worlds, that present themselves as real and familiar scenes that unravel as you look at them.
